Hey guys --
I got my first Slater 29" board when it first came out -- about 2 years
ago. The first year I ripped it hard. Skated everything from banks to
gutters to offroad downhill to gnarly pouring rain. I went through 70mm
wheels in two weeks. At the end of the year, I got a new one. I thought
to myself, "Should I give my old one away or restore it or what?" I
decided to take it to a local skate shop to refurbish it. The store
owner looked at me like I was crazy and said, "Dude, just throw that
thing away!" I THINK NOT! I got new trucks (the old ones had melted
around the kingpin screw from serious carve) new bearings (hella rusted
and destroyed) new grip tape (bad bad shape) which I actually cut out a
new K design and added a carved in quiksilver logo on the nose -- true
Slater style, new bushings (the old ones were shredded) and, of course,
new wheels. The whole project took me about three days, but it was
worth it. I sanded the board so it was smooth on the edges, to 27", and
even sanded the bottom and made it a bit thinner. After the whole
process, I put it side by side to my new KS29. IT LOOKED NEW. And it
rode new, too. So, what the hell am I telling you all this for?
FLEXDEX BOARDS NEVER DIE. I still ride my first board today and it
still rips. Maybe its a magic board, I dunno. So if you got an old
board you think is ready for the can, put some work into it. It could
be your best board ever with a little time and effort.
Thanks,
Rob
